Arthur Macedo, the chief of Mixing Business with People

Arthur Macedo

Have you ever wondered how to join us without any knowledge of "coding world"? He's the best example. Arthur is the type of guy that nobody can never locate, he is everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Impossible? Not if we are talking about Arthur. Oh and nobody can specify what he is currently doing, but probably something, probably... He is supposed to run around holding meetings, negotiating technical and other project details with clients. He also takes care about our sales, so if you don't buy anything he will have you hung drawn and quartered before you even start saying "I will think about it".

On his way back to the office, he ponders on the subtle approaches to be used in order to inform rest of the team of all the possible and impossible miracles that he had just promised to the clients. With his unbeatable diplomatic skills and social sensitivity (earned his degree in International Relations), he translates our weird technical jargon to clients and also communicates the client's requests back to us.

Apart from what he's supposed to do and what he's not supposed to do here at Plano Bê, he likes to frequent local food and drink establishments (which he does quite often). There is one more strange thing about him. He loves vikings. Weird, isnt' it? At least he admitted he had no idea why. As befits a vikings' passionate he wants to spend one week in the middle of the jungle with his family. Hope he doesn't become a meal for any wild animals. We want him alive - no one can talk better to the customers than he does!

Bruno Freitas, the webmaster

Bruno Freitas

This is Bruno. When we hired him a pretty long time ago (in 2008), he told us he had always wanted to use both sides of his brain (creative and logical), so we decided to give him this opportunity and since the very beginning he has been helping us with designing and development.

As a developer, he loves to write lots of lines of code, but he loves even more to delete them. If you're carrying a casual conversation with him try to mention Ruby or databases, and witness the transformation from a silent thinker to a wordy speaker. He also posesses an incredible ability to "translate" any kind of story or real life situation to simple programming logic.

As a designer he loves to start things from scratch, and make old things look cooler. He is a man whose only law is writing valid, semantically correct and clean code. He has a tendency to put everything into microformats.

He is also a huge fan of fantasy world... So if you ever visit him, you can expect to find dragons and warriors on his desk (btw. we are all scared of them) among with a Yoga statue (looking forward for the day that he will be able to throw a Dhalsim's Yoga Fire in the air). As a nerd, he is addicted to music, so through his headphone you can listen to stuff that ranges from classic rock to meditation songs. Everybody calls it POP music except him.

He's always wanted to be a florist, a florist that designs. As a company that cares about people we gave him a chance to realise his dream. So when he's not designing, developing or playing around you can find him outside, in the Plano Bê garden, taking care of our plants.

His favorite war cry is:

Lok'tar ogar!

Carlos Brando, the ideas wrapper

Carlos Brando

First of all he is too modest to say he's really good at his job. Everybody knows he is simply the best! He knows everything about programming. He's the superstar in Brazilian Ruby community. Don't belive it? Go check it out! Google him. surprised?? haha... I told you so! What else can be said about him? He has only one passion, which is to create products that you never even dreamed could exist. Nobody knows why he actually works here, we are still trying to figure it out. Anyway, we know he makes Plano Bê special!

When he's not working, which almost never happens, he's probably teaching sign language to deaf people or trying to learn or do something out of the ordinary. He's all about pushing boundaries and creating exciting new functionalities. When in doubt, remember; "there is an easy way to do that". He's also responsible for the Grok Podcast, a weekly podcast about programming and entrepreneurship.

He's multi talented. He's also a writer. In addition to his famous blog "Nome do Jogo", he wrote the first two books about Rails 2.1 (available in 7 languages) and 2.2 (available in English, Portuguese and Italian), and he led the translation of the "Why's Poingnant Guide to Ruby" into Portuguese. Suffice to say we are really proud of you man!

Danilo Matias, the cheater

Danilo Matias

His name is Danilo, and he is a developer at Plano Bê. He fell in love with making things work and the world of coding as well as world of Warcraft (or even more). Everything has changed since he discovered Warcraft. The real world doesn't exist for him anymore. He's really good actor.

The main role he plays is to pretend he actually works. But when nobody is looking, he plays and plays and plays... So if you have any question about Warcraft he is compendium of knowledge. Apart from Warcraft, his main task at Plano Bê is playing with POS terminals (he enjoys that a lot too).

Danilo is proud to be a part of the Plano Bê team, working with creative and intelligent people to do awesome things. He lives for these things, and tries to find the awesome in everything.

When he is away from the computer, which rarely happens, Danilo can be found somewhere in Franca, possibly enjoying an adult beverage at any fine or not–so–fine drinking establishment, or raging in the pit at a face–melting hard rock show.

Eliézer Pimentel, the believer

Eliézer Pimentel

Eliezer is something of a diplomat at times, especially when it comes to describing his most favorite projects: all of them - he says. Unless he is totally passionate about his work, or simply passionate about life? Maybe...

He is also passionate about turning clients' goals and visions into reality. He helps to figure out not only who our consumers are, but also how to drive sales by effectively locating and reaching the audience with the right message. He wants to show how Plano Bê works to all over the world. We all do!

Apart from taking care about our clients he also loves world of coding. At least once a day he has to write some lines of code, otherwise the day is just wasted. He's also a true believer that impossible is nothing, and that very few things are as hard as we believe.

To get a better idea of who we are dealing with, should be mentioned that he loves to help people. In the future he wants to work with sick people teaching them about new technologies. And when he is not reading a good book, this enthusiastic work-a-holic aspires to one simple thing in life: "to be happy at all times!"

Besides being a terrific chef who makes great barbecue pork & beef sandwiches, he brings a smile to our face by making as many jokes as possible. Thanks! He believes in supporting independent, entrepreneurial spirits as well as free minds and free markets, and JOKES, occasionally at each other's expense.

Gabriela Gomide, the coding genius

Gabriela Gomide

Gabi loves coding, and by nature she is a quiet girl, but after spending more time with us, she started using more complex sentences (two and more words) in her everyday conversations. Working as a team with Jean she makes thousands of customers happier.

She takes care of all of the web applications they have created (but she's most in love with her own baby called xTiss). Just like Jean she is all alone to deal with it. Poor girl!

Of course, she has all the necessary equipment on her desk such as: nail file, hand cream and lip gloss. During her breaks at work she is probably eating (her 2nd love after coding is chocolate).

When she is not busy with work she enjoys time with family, friends, and watching lots of movies (her favorite one is "a walk to remember"), as well as TV series. She can watch TV series for 10 hours a day. Really impressive Gabi! As only one developer-girl at Plano Bê, she sometimes feels like an outsider, so she does what girls can do best. Shopping!

She's passionate about music, all kind of music. She wishes she could play any instrument, but as she said "I am terrible with my hands". More specifically, she is not mechanically inclined. In simple English, maybe better to not ask her to build stuff or try to play :)

However, she would love to do a DJ course one day. We hope your dream comes true!

Jean Orlando, the OMA

Jean Orlando

His name is Jean. Because Jean is quite agile and skilled in most areas of development, we invented a whole new job description - the OMA (One Man Army). However, he is at his best when working together with Gabi. If you have ever heard about that famous 'fire and forget' technology class, then you'll know what we are talking about - Jean & Gabi are just that: the tandem which you can fire and forget : )). All joking aside, their parents should be proud.

They are in charge of the web applications for health plan companies, and take care of all the development, design, support and analysis.

Apart from everything else Jean owns the biggest collection of computer games you have ever seen. He has more than 10000 games at home! One day he said "If I like games so much, I should also learn how they are created." So he started to learn programming. His biggest dream is to create his own game. We'll keep our fingers crossed! As much fun as this is, his biggest passion will be gone very soon when his new passion, Rafael, will be born. Congrats! But there will still be that extra passion, his motorcycle!

Kasia Kowalska, the ads lover

Kasia Kowalska

Her name is Kasia, and she is part of the marketing staff at Plano Bê. She says she doesn't mix marketing and public relations, and she can explain it to everybody who doesn't see any difference even between direct marketing and telemarketing. She uses for that two simple examples:

You see a gorgeous girl at a party. You go up to her and say, "I am very rich. Marry me!" That's Direct Marketing. You see a gorgeous girl at a party. You go up to her and get her telephone number. The next day you call and say, "Hi, I'm very rich. Marry me." That's Telemarketing.

So, her job is helping our customers understand how much they need something they never knew they needed.

Otherwise she's all smiles; happy, playful (not in that way!), chatty and full of energy. Hyperactive some would say, and she wouldn't mind. But hang on – we have witnessed her getting seriously loud (try pushing her buttons and see). To annoy her neighbors she plays piano :)

This Polish girl speaks English and Italian fluently, understands hallway remarks in German and Russian and curses very well in Spanish. Must be really tough for her to sit down at the computer, fire up a game and be faced with a "choose your language" question. Luckily, she prefers card games. And one more thing Twist'n shout. On the rocks with a twist - sublime. Oh yes, vodka comes from potatoes. It's a Polish thing. They drink it for breakfast to warm up the blood.

Luiza Fernandes, the money keeper

Luiza Fernandes

Her name is Luiza and for last six years she has been in charge of financial and administrative part of the company. She manages the daily operations at Plano Bê and ensures that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. She successfully memorizes and synchronizes all the important data, customers meeting, food stacks in our office cantina, or even the peculiar habits of office inhabitants.

She says Plano Bê is her second home. She takes care about us as much as about her son (who btw. visits us or her - nobody knows - every day). The team unity reminds her about waking up early every day at her first home and after few minutes by car, with a smile on her face she joins us at her second home (or maybe we actually join her, she is always first).

In her spare time, she enjoys going to the cinema and theater. She also loves documentary movies. If there is any free time left she improves her financial and administrative skills. She believes every problem can be solved, you just need to find adequate power.

Luis Gustavo, the robot

Luis Gustavo

As a transhumanist he'd say "technology keeps the lights on and keeps me up at night. I find the feedback loop fascinating." He knows the tech industry like the back of his handheld. As the greatest fan of technology he wants to live at least 2000 years. Good luck man!

He is the kind of guy that no one can ever locate or specify what exactly he's currently doing, but he does create preconditions for the unhampered creativity and diligence of the team.

He started programming at age 16 so pretty much time ago. He is the one who created POSXML (programming language that is used to create applications for a POS terminal). Great job btw!!! Beyond the fact that he felt right at work as soon as his face was lit up by monitors, preferably several of them, and for the first three years at Plano Bê he had been coding 20 hours a day, he also had a time to play basketball and tennis. Wow finally we figured out why he is what he is!

He is not normal human being, can be awake for more than 48 hours and still feel good. But things have changed. However, he can still be awake for more that 48 hours and still fell good, but now he works more like a Business Strategy Manager but still addicted to programming and science.

When he's not working or partying with his friends, he's probably reading or watching something about science or science fiction. He is a great fan of Carl Sagan, Ray Kurzweil, Aldous Huxley and Arthur C. Clarke. The funny thing about him is that he's like chameleon changing his style every two years. Nobody knows when the next change is going to happen but sooner or later for sure. Can't wait!

Marcio Giaxa, the ninja

Marcio Giaxa

Marcio is one of the developers at Plano Bê. If you discover what his colleagues say about him, you can come up with only one conclusion: he is a 'bon vivant'. See for yourself: "avid beer drinker", "the good mate", "always has something witty to say". OK, so he's a friendly guy who wins the crowds. But what about work? Well... here are some of the words that were mentioned: "alert", "flexible" and "pro".

Due to reasons unknown to anyone but himself, he tends to think that running is the best way to quit smoking. Wish you luck! He is also the defender of small weak animals. He eats animals that eat other animals. If you can only guarantee him meat for the rest of his life, he will be perfectly happy and will never want anything more. Fortunately he doesn't work with Thiago in the same room.

He's passionate about connecting and encouraging people - which is why he's passionate about running events for all of the team. Thanks! Being an applications enthusiast, he enjoys parties, C, Ruby (and other programming languages), did I mention parties? (surprise!) and electronic music; we never let him have all four at once while he's coding.

Last, but not least, you might be interested to discover that he is a bit o photographer too, or just like he says "I am not good enough to describe myself as a photographer, but one day I will! For now there are still a lot of things I have to learn." Well, his new true passion or simply eager to express his passion for development in more ways than one?

Thiago Scalone, the system superhero

Thiago Scalone

In other words SYSADM. He said that his teacher was life. Who knows if it's true or not. Like almost everybody he likes to write. Maybe not exactly poetry but lines of code, which is almost the same thing: both are highly condensed, semantically rich linguistic structure domains, fecund with meaning.

Sometimes when he's bored with coding he helps to solve errors, writing in piece called Execution Errors. His favorite word is "why".

If he is not working, he is likely watching movies. His favorite movie is "V for Vendetta". He is also huge fan of classical music so if you ever hear Chopin, Vivaldi or Mozart in the office that means Thiago is on a board.

He is a vegetarian so please don't kill any animal close to him, even those small ones. Originally he is not from Franca. Only God knows where he comes from: Guarulhos, São Paulo, Praia Grande, he moved so many times.. but for now he lives in Franca, came across a company called Plano Bê and began working here. Since then, he considers himself one of the luckiest guys in the city.

William Tavares, the problem solver

William Tavares

His name is William and he is the one that keeps all of our support tickets replied to and assists with locating bugs. William is the kind of problem solver that won't get up from the computer until "just this one more thing" is completed. When thrown in uncharted territories he will soon find his way home (mostly because his lightsaber doubles as a LED torch) and forge a reason to stay up even later than the usual 4am, working on the ideas he just got.

On the job, William is known for both doing things right the first time, and keeping a cool head when the pressure is on. (That's comforting to know when, say, the application that runs your entire business needs debugging.)

When he is not in the office playing with these crazy lines of code or getting an earful from customers, he is pretty much always ready to party.

He is passionate about extreme sports like skateboarding for example, so he can be found terrorizing concrete on his skateboard, sometimes he falls down so if you see this please take him to a hospital. We need him alive! He is also an admirer of oriental culture.

Then you can ask yourself: "how can anybody like coding, extreme sports and Eastern culture at the same time?" The answer is - he is just crazy like everyone else in here!
